NNELL is proud to announce its fourth consecutive Summer Institute, sponsored by the National Foreign Language Resource Center at Iowa State University, Santillana USA Publishing Company, Wright Group/McGraw-Hill Publishing and EMC Publishing Company. This institute is open to NNELL State and Regional Representatives and, for the very first time in NNELL history, to the general membership of NNELL. We are delighted to announce that Dr. Helena Anderson Curtain, one of NNELL’s Founding Members, will be with us to present a one and a half day workshop on Content-Based Best Practices. We are also thrilled to have with us for the first time Dr. Scott Hamilton, School Psychologist from the Park Tudor School in Indianapolis, Indiana, who will present his findings on the brain and second language learning.

This institute is offered for free to the first twenty-five qualifying state and regional reps. It is offered on a paid basis to NNELL members in good standing.

Total institute fees included registration, room and board for three days, and group transportation between Des Moines International Airport and the campus of Iowa State University. Institute fees do not cover airfare to and from Des Moines International Airport. There will be no scholarship aid for institute participants.  Housing will consist of double-occupancy air-conditioned dorm rooms in Maple Hall on the campus of Iowa State University. Single occupancy rooms are available at a higher rate. Breakfast will be provided at Maple Hall, and luncheon and dinner will be provided at other meal facilities on campus.

The hours of the institute are from 8:30 to 5:00 PM daily, with additional evening activities for state and regional reps, most of which will be open to all institute participants. The institute will take place in air-conditioned Scheman Hall on the Iowa State campus. State and Regional Reps will be required to submit an advocacy action plan before the end of the institute. Priority for 2008 institute registration will be given to those State and Regional Reps who have submitted an action plan from the  2007 NNELL Summer Institute. Equal numbers of state/regional reps and general NNELL members will be accepted to the institute, with a maximum total of 55 participants, per room occupancy limits. There is no graduate credit available for this institute, but professional development certificates will be awarded to all participants.

Registrants will be notified of their acceptance to the Institute
no later than May 30, 2008.

Completed registration forms with payment may be mailed to Terry Caccavale, NNELL President, Holliston Public Schools, 370 Hollis Street, Holliston, MA, 01746. State and Regional Reps may email applications to caccavalet@holliston.k12.ma.us
